About The Bushman Heritage Museum
The Bushman Heritage Museum - A living exploration of ancient wisdom
This unique museum of contemporary art made by living Bushmen, includes a permanent collection of stunning tapestries made by local Bushmen artists at the Bethesda Arts Centre, artwork that explores the ancient wisdom of |Xam Bushman Creation Mythology, a vivid journey into the story of how the rich mythology and culture of the Bushmen was saved from extinction, and an opportunity to meet the artists, see them working in the studios, and purchase prints and textiles.
First People at Bethesda Arts Centre
We are a group of artists of /Xam descent in the village of Nieu Bethesda. We invite visitors to our Centre to experience our friendly hospitality in welcoming accommodation and to explore our tapestries of Bushman mythology. Chat to us in the studios where we work and buy our stunning artwork and craft at very reasonable prices.
The quality of the work attracted the curator of the British Museum to visit from London to see and purchase a tapestry for their major exhibition in 2016: South Africa, The Art of a Nation
