About The Recollection Village
The Village is so much more than your run-of-the-mill coffee shop or restaurant. It was designed to resemble a small village, brim-full of unique vintage objects, antiques and curiosities.
The Village features, among other, a dining room, an old-fashioned bicycle shop, a garage with a tow truck parked inside, a petrol station, a large showroom with cars from the 1940s and 1950s and the Ouma's Country Store.
The dining room, aptly named Harley's Lounge, is based on the concept of a self-service restaurant. Here, you place your order at the counter, take the proof to the kitchen - a quirky polka-dot wagon in the yard - where you can then take a seat while waiting for your order.
While this establishment is well worth the visit for just for the atmosphere and décor alone, the menu offers an exceptionally interesting variety of nachos, burgers, chips, hot dogs, chicken strips and even macaroni and cheese. For those with a sweet tooth, if the decadent milkshakes weren't already tempting enough, dessert can be sourced from the Ouma's Country Store.
The store stocks old-fashioned sweets and cookies, deli products, leather goods, enamel crockery, crocheted blankets and toys as well as a variety of delicious eats.
The Village also has a playground for the little ones, complete with a huge sandpit, jungle gym and roundabout.
It is, however, the heart behind The Village that makes it such an interesting concept.
The amount of detail evident in every single facet of this mecca for Vintage lovers bears testament to the months of hard work put into this endeavour by owners Hannes and Carol-ann van Jaarsveld.
And while it can be difficult for a coffee shop to set itself apart from the rest, the Van Jaarsveld's have managed to create a space which can truly be enjoyed by all - sentimental souls will delight in the nostalgia, while classic car enthusiasts will consider it a cosy haven.
Parents can relax and enjoy a cup of coffee while their kids enjoy the creative outlets offered by The Village and those just popping in for a social visit with friends might find themselves losing track of time.
The Village is located across the road from the ReCollection Rides museum - something visitors can take advantage of. During your outing, why not take a quick walk and pop in at the museum to view the collection of precious veteran cars at just R30 for adults and R20 for children under the age of 14.
